Not what I have in mind: I reckon I have lived this long with my personal brand of crazy, I can go the rest of the distance.  What I meant was: if people use GPT for a psychological counseling, no one is liable for that, any more than if someone prays to their favorite deity, then goes and shoots up the local synagogue.  That isn’t practicing medicine in either case. 

If one is using ChatGPT as a poor man’s psychologist, it is equivalent to talking to theirself.  But… also note, I am recognizing talking to theirself is not necessarily a bad thing; it might help.  It is likely an improvement on reading self-help books, for that is where it is likely getting its answers anyway.

I haven’t tried to us GPT for that, but might at some point.  If I ever get depression, I would see using GPT as the poor-man’s psychologist as a better approach than alcohol or drugs.  I really don’t trust the chemical approach at all.  Saw that go wrong too many times, saw it go right far too few.  So… chat away, and good luck, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Therapy with a psychologist is expensive and can go on for years.
It is obvious why people want a quicker and cheaper solution.

Billw, I understood that a psychologist is not under the same rules as a psychiatrist, since they doesn’t prescribe medications.  Is this mistaken?
