These typos don't appear in the Internet Archive edition of Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid.

Perhaps they are just typos, and corrected in later editions.

BillK, if you have a paper copy, notice the three omitted letters form a line.  Get a straight edge, verify please, page 404, near the bottom of the page.
