A while back I ran into someone who was bemoaning transhumanism's
corrosive influence.

That's a bit hard to take.  Wikipedia has about a million people in
the category of "living people."  68 of those are categorized as
transhumanists and a substantial number of them are dead or in cryonic
suspension.
