The example Sacks cited (from memory) was a total wipeout. A woman
violist (IRRC) woke up one day with her musical ability completely
gone. It was a total mystery for some time until she had an MRI of
her brain which showed the dead stroke area. As I recall, she never
recovered any musical ability.
