Perhaps a precursor to music was rhythm.  Think of the use of drums sending
messages a long way.  And, at least to me, a good rhythm makes my feet
start tapping, which leads to the invention of dance.  While dancing one
might vocalize one's enjoyment and that could lead to primitive musical
notes.  I wish I had studied the history of African music while I was a
music major.   bill w
