Even if we are forever confined to our solar system, I think these are 
questions that can safely be relegated to a future time, when either 
beings much more capable than we are can actually solve them (rather 
than ponder, pontificate and argue about them, which is all we can do), 
or they won't be relevant at all (because we have failed to survive).

In the meantime, I reckon a better use of our time would be figuring out 
how to survive, and how to bring these more capable beings into existence.
