That depends on your definition of 'thrive', I reckon.

If Communist China invades Taiwan, I don't see anybody benefiting apart 
from the upper echelons of the CCP, and the people they temporarily 
favour (until they don't).

Not many people would define the fate of a caterpillar infected with 
Ichneumon wasp larvae as 'thriving'.
