Hi Dr. Campen

That was one of the most alarming papers I ever read.

I have been talking about a way to destroy plastics in trash before
they break down into microplastics for over a year.  The concept is to
use intermittent PV energy and steam to turn trash into syngas, a
reaction that dates back to 1850 when it was used to make town gas.
The energy balance looks good, the gas has about 4 times the
electrical energy that went into making it.
