Belief is a common feature of human psychology. EP says it was either
directly selected, i.e., at some point, it contributed to gene
survival or it is a side effect of something that was selected. I
think it was the latter, and specifically, it was part of the
psychological characteristics selected for wars.
I know, it's an unpopular view.
