I don't know, didn't realise that it did.

I get email digests from the list, so when replying, I have to copy and 
paste the subject lines. Maybe your email client is extra fussy about 
identifying threads? To me, a thread is anything with the same subject 
line, so I'd say no, my replies don't create new threads, but your 
software might not have the same opinion.
