Yes! :) I am considering some years into the future. AI software
and 'smartphone' chip design will continue exponential improvements.
Especially as AI will be assisting in the coding and chip design.
When your assistant AI is organising your life, you will be very upset
if your internet connection goes down and that causes your AI to stop
working. Sure, some cloud functionality would be lost, but you would
expect your device would have enough memory storage and power to keep
your AI running while offline.
Another consideration is all the GDPR privacy legislation that
countries are enabling. (Partly because of all the juicy punishment
fines money they can extract from the cloud suppliers). Most of your
AI data must remain on your own device. (And hopefully be backed up to
the large capacity memory sticks that are becoming available).
One of the reasons for Cloud computing is that our rulers want to
control populations. If they can click a button and delete your
internet history, they can make anyone into a non-person. Personal
AIs on our own devices will be necessary to protect individual rights.
