In theory, if personal AI assistants process data locally and have
secure privacy protections built-in, then they would be a good defence
against surveillance and interference from corporations or
governments. Note the "In theory". You would have to be very sure that
your AI was acting in your best interest, and not that of any company or
third party. Because they will be powerful AIs in their own right, they
have to be totally secure. Otherwise they could themselves become
tools for surveillance or manipulation.
