Adrian it is because of fellers like you that I have been reading ExI for all these years: you think before you start pecking away.

Regarding your comment on bans, this is the same conclusion I reached 25 years ago, at a Singularity conference at Stanford that Eliezer organized, the one where I struggled with my conscience, then decided to go out there at the break and steal the Singularity Ahead poster, only to find that some other immoral reprehensible bahstid had already stolen it before I got there.  The evil sleazy wretch!  Some depraved, unprincipled scoundrel took it.  Inexcusable it is, vile, nefarious, entirely lacking conscience or human decency, swiping that poster before I could.

 

But I digress.   

 

I concluded in 2000 that any ban would only stop those who obey laws, leaving those who flagrantly disregard societal guidelines (such as the unscrupulous reprobate who stole that Singularity Ahead poster (that sneaky spalpeen is probably in his hideout somewhere coding up a runaway AI right now.))
