Sadly, that's probably true

I don't suppose our local data is any more secure than data on the 
internet or in a smartphone, these days

We can probably assume that putting information into a computing device 
is equivalent to handing it straight to your local 'n-eyes' alliance at 
least

Apart from that, Google giving out assurances about security sounds to 
me like the scorpion promising the fox it won't sting him
