It really did, back in the olden days, as it is still doing today.  

 

Before you get offended at the linked video, keep in mind it was made back
in the days when politically incorrect material of this nature was not only
allowed, it was encouraged.

 

This link documents an incident involving an actual animated cat and an
actual animated mouse, in their struggles against an automated automaton.
Recognizing that with our marvelous modern bandwidth, our collective
attention span has grown far shorter than when this insightful documentary
was created.  More specifically, our modern internet-enabled attention spans
are shorter than that of typical preschoolers from those benighted times (I
aughta know, I was there.)

Time saver: the carbon-based units, ordinarily adversaries, temporarily
joined forces in the common cause of ridding themselves of the cursed
mechanicat.  The result was delightful comedic destruction and chaos, these
being required for all forms of animated child-focused entertainment in
those delightfully pugnacious times.
