Most of us perpetrated fondly regretful things in our cheerfully misspent
college days: damaged or destroyed cars and innocent bystanders by mixing
alcohol and natural competitiveness perhaps, or recorded a criminal record
by participating in (or originating) a gambling ring, devoured recreational
pharmaceuticals and caught the local communicable diseases, all the usual
youthful indiscretions.

 

My math/science/engineering geek friends and I were unable to do any of
those things.  We owned neither cars nor alcohol, all our gambling was done
with monopoly money which is perfectly legal, for we owned little or no
actual fiat currency, there were no pharmaceuticals available that I ever
saw or heard of there, and we were far too unattractive for the kind of fun
which results in catching anything more serious than a frisbee.  Hey, we
were technerds.  Squares.  L7 to the core.  So we resorted to alternative
youthful indiscretions such as overclocking ancient microprocessors, which
hadn't even advanced to that stage: they were still milliprocessors in those
benighted times.

 

Kieth and John can relate perhaps.  We were so dumb.  Just getting over to
the engineering building necessitated evasion of predatory beasts such as
the pterodactyl and the voracious tyrannosaur.  Life was nasty, brutal and
short.

 

Things got better.
