Subject: [ExI] My review of Eliezer Yudkowsky's new book
>…"If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies" by Eliezer Yudkowsky and Nate Soares is a well written intelligent book and there's a lot in it I agree with, but two things I don't.
>…Perhaps I'm reading too much between the lines but the authors seem to imply that they know their proposed solution is just not going to happen, at least not soon enough to have any effect on developments, because it's impractical verging on the impossible. And I agree with them about that. John K Clark
Ja. John you may recall a few years ago when Eliezer made that notion public on Less Wrong: that we needed to stop all AI research, stop everything, too dangerous etc. But that was his “last tear” article, in which he ended with a kind of flourish along the lines of… I have wept my last tear for humanity, for I realize there is no stopping this trend.
I don’t recall when that was, but it wasn’t that recent. I think it was before COVID.
John I do urge a nice relaxed and friendly hello to old friends before jumping into the business if you wish. You are among friends here. As far as I know there are no hard feelings about anything that has gone before, and don’t think anyone here intends to go digging thru archives or anything. That was then, now is now.
We welcome you back and look forward to your commentary. We still have a mystery moderator, and the only info I will offer is that I am not ExiMod.
