[ExI] My review of Eliezer Yudkowsky's new book (UBI)

UBI will fail for the same reason as communism. 

1.) People don’t value what is given, they value what they earn.

2.) The people who control the dole will eventually come to see themselves as overlords with the right to determine the lives of their dependents (whom they treat as children) so it will lead to serfdom. Inequality will skyrocket and innovation will decline.

3.) Decades of global charity and failed welfare programs have made it clear: Poverty is not created by lack of money but by holding bad ideas. UBI will not eradicate poverty, it will make it worse. UBI is itself a bad idea founded on a poor understanding of human nature.

All of this is clear from the last century and a half of history, but because UBI now has a new brand name, I expect millions more will suffer as this terrible idea is tried all around the world.
