With this I disagree.  If China really does have a chokehold on materials other countries need for weapons, chips, motors and such, then other countries need to develop that technology themselves.  I refuse to believe we cannot develop the chemistry technology to extract these materials, and furthermore… if we get there first, then we get to control that market rather than the Chinese.
 
We all have eyes and ears.  We hear and see China is casting a lustful eye toward Taiwan.  In times where world war could break out, one must not depend on one’s likely enemy for materials.  One must have one’s own ability to make what one needs.  So that is an example where everybody is not a loser: whoever outside of China gets a rare earth extraction facility first wins.  Huge money to be made.  Never let a crisis go to waste.
