No sir. The Affordable Care Act fixed all that John, it fixed everything. The poorest Americans have high quality healthcare available now, thanks to the Affordable Care Act (we are told.) Well, good. The current stay-shutdown party voted for that ACA without a single yes vote from their evil opposition party, so they can take credit for fixing all of those problems hurray. We don’t know why that same party refuses to reopen now, but… I have an insight from the POV of one who was at a national park last week: Yosemite. I go there periodically and was thru there in previous “shutdowns” as well. I was astonished at the stark contrast from previous federal “shutdowns.”

This article below sums it up nicely, but I can put it in even simpler terms: in previous “shutdowns” the federal government went out of its way to maximize the pain for the public and the taxpayer, while minimizing the pain for government workers. This time it is exactly the opposite. We the taxpayers breezed thru the park, they were still doing trash collections, no charge upon entry, no traffic control that I could see, but emergency services were still available if a prole damaged himself or fell ill (they made sure to inform us proles on that point, along with how to contact the EMTs during the “shutdown.”)

This article covers that point well:

Fun aside: previously the open-now party in charge was the other major party; government workers are primarily constituents of that party. The fed minimized the pain to government workers before: protecting their own. Now the open-nowers are the other major party, who seem to care nothing about the attitude of government workers (they aren’t getting their vote anyway) but do care deeply about the people who pay the bills: us. Why those evil old open-nowers! But we proles pay for it all, so it is our park. I see the justice in getting out of the way and giving the proles what we damn well bought.

Another fun aside: far different this time is that so many of the visitors are Indian or Asian. More on that later perhaps, but the Asian tourists know nothing and care nothing of our silly government’s budget travails. They just want a nice selfie for their TwitterX feed or FaceBook page of a huge granite dome which looks like half of it just broke off and went away somehow or four guys they don’t recognize carved into the side of a mountain. How fun!

Now…this time… the federal government attitude seems so very different from ANY of the previous “shutdowns”: apologetic, supportive, be-back-soon humble attitude, rather than the previous “shutdowns” with their arrogant get-off-my-lawn-and-just-go-away attitude.
