Isn't reversible computing a bit like the Casimir Effect, a theoretical thing that /in theory/ could produce amazing benefits, but in practice, we will probably never be able to use?

Has anyone ever actually done any reversible computing? (in a practical sense, not in the 'a glass of water' sense).

What are the practical difficulties we'd have to overcome in order to do it in any kind of useful way?
