Thx Adrian, I will pass on working for Elon. I have no personal heartburn with him, and see that he is doing all the things we would do if we owned a trillion dollars. But I have heard from people who know, locals who work at Tesla, that the pace of life there and the other Musk companies would slay a man half my age. The pay is excellent I hear. I could be the richest man in the cemetery. But no, I hafta take care of family for now, and probably would pass on SpaceX even if I didn't have that responsibility.
I will offer this one parting shot: I read thru the SpaceX business plan when it came out last month and consider major parts of it absurd. That Mars colony business, sheesh, how the hell are ya going to monetize THAT? Sell them warm woolen mittens and oxygen? Elton John was right: Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids.
On the other hand... StarLink is GREAT! I use mine any time I go camping now. I am going to West Virginia in a coupla weeks to the ancestral homeland (Lincoln county and Logan county.) They still don't have internet back there in most places. I have genealogy collaborators back there who have no internet and no computer. We communicate with hand written letters. My most valuable contact has only dial up modem and his only computer is at his "office" which is the ranger station.
I didn't buy any SpaceX stock, but might if it hits about 70 bucks. The StarLink segment alone is probably worth that much.
