Keith do you have contact info for Eliezer? Good chance he would have ideas.

Ja same here. He went behind closed doors about that timeframe, with that cryptic last-tear comment he posted here. It was about his efforts to influence AI developers in AI safety. As I recall his comment was something along the lines of “…I have wept my last tear for humanity…” After that, he didn’t post here again.

Keith my bride and I haver fond memories of the Pensfa parties at your place. I described Arel as the lady of infinite patience, for we are the biggest buncha yahoos you ever saw. (Tis true, ja? (tragic (but if we were not this way, SciFi would not be nearly as delightfully weird as it is.))) Arel would go with the program, visit with any normies who came along, such as my bride and Melanie Swan’s boyfriend for instance (fun deetz available on request.) Good times.

>…We were both appalled at the story of your FIL being burned out Best wishes, Keith

Meh, he is coping, as are we.

I had an idea. There is one chair which he can get out of easier than the others, so I propped up a bunch of photo albums and his childhood stuff right there around his chair where he could see it. We saved stuff he didn’t even know he still had, such as a scrapbook his mother made of his first five years, back during the war. That scrapbook has survived two fires now, unscorched. We do not yet have digital images of that scrapbook. I will start on that project when I get back from West Virginia.

I figure if AI decides to not kill us, it will likely discover how to upload us. This is really our only hope of long term “survival” for we short-lived fast-burn carbon units are probably not smart enough to figure out how to upload us. If AI is friendly and aligned with humanity, then the digital images and ASCII files we make will allow us to bring some of our favorite things thru the great conflagration of this existence into the long-lived slow-burn virtual universe of the future.
