Spike, you are out of your fern.
>…Tens of thousands of people died in the heat wave in the EU a few weeks ago…
DuckAI says:
At least 1,300 people died in Europe due to a severe heat wave in late June 2026. This event was part of a broader trend of increasing heat-related mortality linked to climate change.

Heat Wave Death Toll in June 2026
Overview of Deaths
* At least 1,300 people died in Europe due to a severe heat wave in late June 2026.
* This event is part of a concerning trend of increasing heat-related mortality linked to climate change.
Cold-related deaths in Europe last year were approximately 363,500.

Cold-Related Deaths in Europe
Annual Mortality Statistics
The total number of cold-related deaths in Europe last year (2025) was approximately 363,500. This figure highlights the significant impact of cold temperatures on public health across the continent.
Comparison with Heat-Related Deaths
To provide context, here is a comparison of cold-related and heat-related deaths:
Type of Death
Estimated Annual Deaths
Cold-related deaths
363,500
Heat-related deaths
Fewer than 800
This stark contrast emphasizes the greater burden of cold-related mortality compared to heat-related fatalities in Europe.
>… It is not something that will be measured in the US because the people in power don't give a hoot about causing mega deaths…
Europe is in power. I don’t understand why they are having all those climate-related fatalities.
>…My guess is that the excess heat within a few years will cause a million deaths a year in the US, and far more in other places. A large power failure in Phoenix during a heat wave would kill at least a million…
OK yer on. We can make a bet, with the winner receiving a Noble Prize: my respect for all eternity. Keith you already have my respect, so in that sense you don’t have much to gain, but I do.
>…The other thing heat will do is wreck farming and cause famines. Heat combined with fertilizer and fuel disruptions may do that this year…
Again, I am betting there will not be serious fuel or fertilizer disruptions.
>…Your idea of desalinating water in California and pumping it to Nevada is just silly…
It wouldn’t need to be in Nevada, although that would have tax advantages. If a pipe is placed from the sea to Badwater Basin CA, the water would flow by gravity: Badwater is 86 meters below sea level. The osmosis facility could be on the sea side so it could be periodically back flushed. That way the pipe would flow with fresh water.
Good chance we would still need to pipe the water on out to Nevada anyway, because California law precludes most coal burning. Keith those kinds of solutions will need to be pressed into reality, for AI will devour energy at twice again what we use now. The US appetite for power will triple. For every power plant now in existence, we will need three.
>…Talk to any of the AIs about that. I published on this problem years ago and know what I am talking about. Keith
We know there are problems Keith, but that is why we have engineers like us. We solve them. It’s what we do. We have written about creating orbiting networks of computing nodes. We can build pipes and power plants.
In spite of the drawbacks, there is no turning back really. AI is upon us, the commies are racing to get it going before we do, and if they do, they will destroy everything we care about.
