Clearly we are trapped in that cycle that Eliezer and plenty of others foresaw.

Of course AI will be and is being weaponized.  We don't know who it will go off and kill.  We don't know what the Chinese will do if it gets fully autonomous weaponized AI first.  We have already seen weaponized drones do automated target recognition and destruction.

Eliezer suggested total government control over all AI.  But that didn't sound to me at the time like it would work: governments can behave with malice as well as anyone else.
