It also works as an attention filter.  If you aren't stable enough to
receive a message that takes a mere decade to observe, how could you ever
begin a conversation that takes millennia?

Also remember their subjective clock might still be analogous to our own,
but their data center has intentionally spread "ticks" across real-time for
thermodynamic reasons.  Maybe they'd be willing to run hot for a million
years if were prove worth the hassle - understanding the tradeoff in
timespace entropy might be how we show sufficient maturity?
