That comment seems unreasonably confident.  An AI researcher may try to create an artificial criminal or artificial miscreant, in order to find zero day vulnerabilities in online banking and commerce, then actually exploit them, perhaps as a way to train white hats to fight them.  Or perhaps just because the researcher wants to raise hell, or if the researcher feels it is unfair that others are rich but he is living on his parents' charity, at their annoyance.  AI researchers can be bad guys too.  

We saw a transition from a time when the tools of bank robbery were a mask and gun to a time when it is perpetrated with a computer and stolen security codes.  It is easy enough to envision a transition to artificial bank robbers getting away with real assets, and we won't even be able to figure out who was the biological intelligence behind the heist.
