Keith that's the beauty of elections.  Should government agents try to raise the price of fuel, or even fail to take measures to keep it affordable, they will be brutally destroyed in the popular election.  Their opposition would need only a very simple slogan: our side will support affordable gas.  

Keeping energy prices low, particularly motor fuel, is the one thing that voters will support in perfect unison.
