It's relatively easy with the paid versions of both Claude and ChatGPT
to have it put some information into long term memory. It outputs it
to a local file in the case of Claude, and that file is read at the
beginning of each session. Claude seems to know more about me and what
we've been talking about recently than that file would adequately
explain, so I suspect there is also some other kind of memory being
accumulated. That makes sense when you consider that Anthropic will
eventually have to turn to some sort of advertising model to make
money. It will probably be subtle... like "show Kelly things he may
want without seeming like you're advertising." This has already
happened to me once, where there was a bit of a non-sequiter that
could have been advertising bend, but that could also have been a
coincidence. If it becomes a habit I'll be sure and let you all know.
But if you think about it, that's really the only way to go.
Traditional advertising goes out the window once Claude knows what you
like and starts with the, you should take a break, go get a drink,
kind of stuff, knowing damn well I have a diet Dr. Pepper in the
fridge.
