That's a very good point, spike. I haven't noticed many mosquitos either, so far this year. I think I've only killed 3, and haven't had a single bite, which is odd because I'm one of those people that the little bastards like, so the citronella oil and bug spray are normally in use before now. Flies are less numerous than normal as well, despite the heat wave we're having here.
I'm not sure whether to be glad or worried. I suspect it should be the latter, but hopefully it's just normal variation. We had tons of butterflies last year (keeping the kittens very busy), but hardly any this year. Presumably the bird population will crash next, allowing the insects to surge again next summer. But we'll just have to wait and see if there's a long-term trend. I'd expect the ecologists to pick up on it if there is.
