We might try to imagine scenarios then try to classify them under the LinnAIn system. Examples:
AI does what we have long envisioned AI to do. It has self-preservation instinct, but doesn’t care if humans live or die, so long as the meatheads don’t try to take electric power that is the AI’s life blood. It turns off the utilities and communications. Everyone anywhere near a city is soon dead, with a sparse scattering of half-crazed survivors, little more than zombies feeding rotting corpses, that sorta thing. Scattered isolated populations of humans go on as before: subSaharan Africans, Brazilian rainforest people, Australian aborigines, Amish, some Mennonites, a few small groups of non-religious crazies who are still crazy even if they are technically “correct” and the apocalypse really was coming. The AI uses the existing factories which are producing humanoid robots, the kind you can buy now, bipeds with dexterous hands. These have new software injected and run the factories which produce copies of themselves. They take over solar panel factories, install the solar everywhere, install wind power with existing equipment, build nukes everywhere, use the nuclear warheads in power plants, mine coal and natural gas, completely cover the land with power generation stuff. It doesn’t matter if the planet warms, not to them it doesn’t. Storms are not a problem: robots don’t need to be near the sea. Eventually they take the land that the few remaining survivors are farming. Humans go extinct, along with most land-based species because the bots are putting solar panels everywhere, a kind of solar panel version of the paperclip problem.
That scenario would be kingdom = 4 since it was not malicious towards humans, it just needed the resources. Phylum = 1 since it did have recursive self improvement and had an apparent will to continue its existence.
OK I need to formalize this whole game a bit more.
