ChatGPT and Duck.ai opined that Musk definitely overpaid for Twitter.  They went on about how it is considered the biggest overpayment for any company in history, easily provable by looking at the ad revenue vs purchase price.  But I already knew Musk wanted Twitter not as a revenue stream but as a meme stream to train his AI and keep it more up to date on recent events than his competitors.

When I asked Grok:

It opined thus:

Grok:  He agreed in April 2022 to pay $54.20 a share, about $44 billion, and closed in October 2022 after trying to walk away. That was roughly a 38% premium to the stock price just before the offer. Me:  It then went on about revenues, rates of return etc for three paragraphs, ending with a delightful flourish:

Grok:  What the sticker price does not capture is why he wanted it. He was buying the audience, the megaphone, and later a distribution pipe for Grok, not a normal media IRR (internal rate of return). Those may have been worth a premium to him. They do not make $44 billion a fair price for Twitter’s advertising business in 2022.




Me:  Heh.  Cool! A grokky self-awareness of sorts, along with a modest admission on the order of: I'm unworthy!  I suck!  Amazing grace on the part of Elon, to save a wretch like me.
