Ja, most people vote by mail now in California.  Even with mail in ballots we proles have no way of knowing if our ballots are counted properly, which reduces confidence in elections.

I am suggesting a public-access spreadsheet showing the name of the eligible voter, the number of the ballot which that voter filled out, a secret voter-created password that would allow that voter to verify that ballot went in as he intended.  With that system, the vote is both secret and verifiable.

This does not solve every problem.  The scenario has been suggested: Sign that ballot or I will beat ya!  

A second scenario was suggested: Sign that ballot or NO PUSSY FOR YOU Buster!  

Of course I imagine a third scenario: Sign that ballot, or FIRST I beat ya, THEN no pussy for you, Buster.

Note: when I am in trouble, my bride calls me Buster.  Fortunately, she doesn't beat me.
