John, that tunnel between Folkstone UK and Coquelles France is about 7.6 meters in diameter and about 50 km in length.

 

The amount of soil removed to make that is about six times what it would take to make a small bore tunnel between DC and Greenbrier County, or three times as much if you assume a double bore for vehicles going both ways.  

 

Shall we ask BillK and Ben if their chunnel is ridiculous?
