" We can leave that closed while we work with Venezuela."

Spike, I don't think you understand refining oil. I used to work in a refinery that processed Venezuelan oil. The oil is heavy and high in sulfur. It takes a refinery designed and built for that kind of oil. Large capacity fluid cracker, 4 cokers, and a huge capacity to remove sulfur. You can't feed that kind of oil to a refinery not designed for it.

Best wishes,

Keith I am aware that Venezuelan oil is sour, as is much of North American crude, compared to the sweet crude in the Middle East. This means more investment opportunities in refineries capable of removing the sulfur, and in pipes for the Saudis to export their oil without the risk of the strait.

With all the infrastructure likely to be built, we get lots of redundancy, plenty of alternatives to prevent empowering the hostile theocracy of Iran, which we have been needing to do since at least 1979. We know it will be costly and will take a while, but that is the nature of infrastructure investment. It is a cost we will likely need to endure, in case the singularity doesn’t kill everybody.
