My parents had one of those in 1960. But why it would be found in a house with no electricity is a mystery. For what is worth, no part of the US is without radio reception.

Clarification Keith: the house had electricity.  It just didn’t have electrical outlets on the wall.  They rigged electric wires inside PVC tubes, two of which are shown back there in back of the set.  As far as I can tell, the only wires went to this TV and to the kitchen.  The bedrooms didn’t have electric power in about the mid 70s.

 

They also rigged running water inside the house, also carried by exposed PVC pipes.

 

My current theory is that they bought the set, took it home, connected it to electricity and discovered the signal there was so tenuous it wasn’t worth the bother.  But having an indoor flush toilet was really cool.
