John…  He was dancing.  Dead serious people don’t dance.  Of course it was self-parody.

He has a track record of not doing that.  I consider the risk very low, certainly compared to the risk of bad AI and what nature is doing to us right now.

I did, recently.  It was parody with a point, well taken: we must be very careful to avoid accidental nuclear war.  The US military did.  The system was already in place when Strangelove hit the theaters in 1964.  The reason that scenario never played out is why we have the nuclear football.  Without that code from POTUS, field commanders cannot launch a first strike, even if they wanted to.

 

That being said… in 1962, briefly, field commanders did have the authority to launch a first strike.  Fortunately none of them did.

We know that worries you John, but I don’t worry about it.  I can think of a coupla dozen existential risks higher than that one.
