Ja, Stuart I was most surprised at that outcome.  That case has been the
buzz over on Reason for some time.

There was a local motorcycle repair shop where I used to do business, but
during covid the guy who ran the place (alone) locked the door one day and
did not return.  I walked by there occasionally and noted that he had about
five or six used bikes in there, and a lot of merch left on the shelf like
it was the apocalypse or something.  I noted there was a motorhome out back
behind a fence.  

About a year or more after he closed his shop, I called the local
authorities and asked if they might do a welfare check on him, perhaps look
in that motorhome.  I was told they couldn't go in it without a warrant, but
they would see what they could do.  They got to try out their nifty new
drone, where they hovered around and looked inside.  They couldn't see that
anything was amiss, so they went to his house, knocked on the door, found
him alive and well.  He had just gone out of business and hadn't
dispositioned his stuff.

As I understand it, had he not answered the door, the constables would have
had to go away, and we still wouldn't know if he had perished of covid or
suicide in his own house, because there was no legal means of finding out.
Still, I hafta think that decision was wrong and will eventually be
overturned.
