health. The desire for </FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>a better political system (when we can get it) should
not </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>constrain</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>us from working within </FONT><FONT
face=Arial size=2>the existing political systems when </FONT><FONT
face=Arial size=2>there is</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>an opportunity to add our shoulders to the wheel when
that wheel</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>happens to be poised to </FONT><FONT face=Arial
size=2>roll in a direction that is in the interests of</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>our health and of the </FONT><FONT face=Arial
size=2>health of our families and friends as well.</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>If California can get itself a good stem cell
and therapeutic cloning </FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>legislative regime, the rest of American may follow
suit. But in either</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>case, basic </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>research
</FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>gets done faster when the legislative and
political</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>climate are more conducive to putting more post docs
(the discovery</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>work </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>horses)
</FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>behind the lab </FONT><FONT face=Arial
size=2>benches. </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>More is learnt and what is
learnt</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>is better </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>able
</FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>to be </FONT><FONT face=Arial
size=2>commercialised and turned into health products</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>and </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>services
</FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>which </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>is good for
the local economies where these things</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>are </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>produced. </FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>I am not a Californian or an American, but I want
lots of competitor</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>countries pushing for better health products and
services, and</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>more educated voters and politicians, because these
things </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>up the</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>rate </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>of positive
change around the globe (if not quite as fast as they</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>do locally)<FONT>. The countries or
</FONT><FONT>states with </FONT>the </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>most biotech
savvy</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>voters and politicians will have </FONT><FONT
face=Arial size=2>a competitive </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>advantage
</FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>(all else</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>being equal). </FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>Adding your signature to a petition
oriented towards better health</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>outcomes (a better legislative regime) is something
concrete. It need</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>not be all you do today </FONT><FONT face=Arial
size=2>or ever. Talking (even talking intelligently</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>may feel good) but </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>its
worth doing something too. Or instead if you</FONT>
<P><FONT face=Arial size=2>have to choose.</FONT>
