<html><body><div>I should have been more specific. I was at work and typing fast. My point was that releasing this carbon at a rate as we are doing now introduces an unknown. Either less Oxygen as it is displaced by heavier CO2, a balance, or more Oxygen due to increased vegetation. It's too complex to model accurately (so far). The "bad" part is blindly following a path that we can't accurately model when all our eggs are in one basket and we don't have the technology yet to reverse the effects. So less carbon being released is better simply because it extends the status quo. </div>

<div>Of course, a small amoutn of fear is enough to motivate more research into MNT and AI, but too much fear causes people to fight and destroy. Burning off allthe fossil fuels may not be bad in the long run. Burning off millions of years of carbon in a few hundred years may upset the status quo just enough to engage more people. Or it could cause too much change too fast and set back the singularity. We just don't know. Which is the preferred path?</div>
