Mostly I have depended on Amazon ('people who bought this book also bought...') for other suggestions. Then I branched out to winners of Hugos, Nebulas, etc.<br>
<br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:comic sans ms,sans-serif;font-size:small;color:rgb(0,0,0)">Then I found <a href="http://allreaders.com">allreaders.com</a> where they have a search engine where you put in your preferences for plot, characters, writing style and so forth and then you get a list of books.<br>

Also, is there a reverse engine? That is, you put in the book's title and you get the characteristics of the book, like war or war, magic or no magic, etc.<br>
