The topic of whether students should be separated by ability or 'mainstreamed' is a hot topic and I do not know the current status of those ideas in actual schools. It all depends on whether you want to consider that emotional damage (theoretical) will happen in students who do not make the upper levels of ability. I say separate. Students should get used to their place in the world. Being downrated might motivate them.
