The journal made the same mistake you made.<br>
<br>
Science journalists are science journalists.  I individually can't<br>
talk them down that readily.  Anything I said to them would get<br>
ignored regardless of its truth.<br>

I can, however, speak to you.  You have known, in the past, that<br>
appeals to authority are logical fallacies.  "Respected journal" is<br>
one such authority.<br>
