This is not to say that MD's are stupid, it's just
that most are miseducated.
Years ago I worked in Medical Records in a hospital
and typed hundreds of History and Physical reports.
If a patient did not present with the symptions of a
classical nutritional disease such as beri beri she
was considered to be well nourished.
The craziest example I ever saw was when an
endocrinologist gave the "well-nourished" label to a
woman who stated that her diet consisted of 20 candy
bars per day.
A lack of training in nutrition is a problem, but the whole
emphasis of their training is a bigger problem: the focus
on treating symptoms.
Nicholas Perricone MD read Adele Davis' "Let's Eat
Right to Keep Fit" before he went to medical school
because he was fresh out of the Army and suffering
from fatigue and was seeking solutions.
My library includes a number of books by MD's who
have somehow gotten turned on to treating causes
by using nutrition etc.

I agree with Steve here; the issue of dietary change is ignored. He also
downplays the social factors some, continuing to emphasize the medical
approach to treatment. If diet and/or social change are implicated, then
more Prozac is merely finger-in-the-dike.
