It's much easier in Italian. The words for "first" ("primo") and "before"
("prima") are almost the same, and it happens that the word "first",
gender-adjusted for "thing", becames "prima" too. So, if you try to utter
the previous sentence, the contradiction will hit you full force.

It's a pity that, with "what happens after the last event", it doesn't
work in the same way...
