[extropy-chat] Rephrase the "Marriage" question...

I thought marriage was one of the success's of the western world created by 
the church. It addresses issues of public health in expanding populations by 
minimising people 'sleeping around' and spreading diseases (also by 
promoting the family and home unit perhaps), and that kids grow up better if 
parentage is relatively stable and ownership of the kid is supported by 
heritage. Of course that was useful hundreds of years ago, and also if you 
dont believe the spiritual aspects of joining soul's, reincarnation, etc.
