Au contraire. Word play is about observing constraints with wit and, if 
possible, brilliantly. That's why Eliezer's post was so wickedly and 
gratifyingly funny.

It's the same with limericks, where almost *nobody* has clue one on the 
scansion of just about the simplest verse form ever to make us laugh. It's 
like Bush struggling to grasp the meaning of a subordinate clause, although 
luckily not as consequential.
