It should be noted that the IRA was documented to be a significantly
socialist/communist oriented organization, and thus at least some
die-hard members of that political orientation within that organization
have reason to feel enmity for the Pope and his contribution to ending
communist rule around the world. The IRA once got at least as much
funding from the KGB as it did from ex-pats in Boston.
