It seems that Seneca gave
a different, maybe deeper,
definition of death, a definition
which could explain the (supposed)

[Letters to Lucilius, 1)
'For we are mistaken when we look forward to death;
the major portion of death has already passed.
Whatever years be behind us are in death's hands.'
