Jesus.

It's one thing to know intellectually that freedom is a rare phenomenon,
historically speaking, and that there was no particular reason to suppose it
would be long-lived; to imagine future dystopian scenarios, however vividly.
But I didn't think something on this level would happen this soon. I suppose
this must be what people felt in the 1930s listening to the news from
Germany.
